Airline Brands Soar With Strategic Sports Sponsorships in Hub Cities

January 28, 2025

Airlines continue to fly high in the sponsorship universe, investing in prominent partnerships to build brand awareness and cultivate customer loyalty in a perennially competitive market. They often focus their efforts in markets where they have major hubs, partnering with cities’ teams, events, and venues to meld local influence with global reach.

Here are the airlines with the highest sponsorship spend in some of the largest hubs in the US:

  • Delta (Atlanta)
  • United Airlines (Chicago)
  • American Airlines (Dallas)
  • Southwest (Denver)
  • United Airlines (Houston)
  • American Airlines (Los Angeles)
  • American Airlines (Miami)
  • Delta (New York City)
  • Alaska Airlines (Seattle)

Atlanta-based Delta Air Lines leads the category in overall deals, partnering with 22 teams across major pro sports, including all four franchises (the Atlanta Braves, Atlanta Falcons, Atlanta Hawks, and Atlanta United) in Georgia’s capital city. Following right behind is United Airlines with 21 pro team partnerships, its hometown teams the Chicago Bears, Chicago Blackhawks, Chicago Bulls, and Chicago White Sox among them. Headquartered just outside of Dallas in Fort Worth, American Airlines takes the #3 spot with 9 sponsorships, including deals with the Dallas Mavericks and Dallas Stars—both of which call the city’s American Airlines Center home—and the Dallas Cowboys.
